"What"!!!!..........I mean "YES"
The Amazing AG is a great, great friend of mine…..my kindred spirit. She is one of those people that you can’t figure out what you had been doing before you met her. I will be forever grateful for her assistance in moving me over to UK.
AG got engaged while I was home on New Year’s Eve. I was very lucky that her fiancé MB popped the question while I was home!
I will now tell the story of how a kind and patient man asked an emotional and stubborn girl to marry him.
Earlier on New Year’s Eve, I get a call from AG and I blab on and on about nothing important all the while I realize that there is silence…….now it is at this moment that I realize that AG is upset.
AG is the gets upset in the cutest way. She will call me up and sit on the other end trying to calm herself and pull it together to speak. Usually I will ramble and then I realize something is up. I will ask her what is wrong and she will at first say “Nothing”….but folks you must never believe this when someone is crying the word “Nothing”!
Next as she is trying to tell you what is going on her voice does this high-pitch-squeaky thing that calls any dog that can hear over-----glass shattering….. I always have two simulations feeling. 1. Of utter panic and worry. And 2. Of laughter at the squeaking mouse on the phone.
Back to New Year’s Eve…..She is upset. MB has just driven into town and they had a big fight and she is aggravated. The fight in the grand schemes of things is nothing major. But it is more of an annoyance and she is in meltdown mode because no one likes to fight on New Year’s Eve Pre-Party. We chat for a while (MB is out driving around doing errand but being a very wise man and leaving AG to calm down). AG is fine and we end the conversation with her being mad but also know that she loves MB and he really is one hell of a guy and no one is perfect.
Later on that evening, MB returns from his escape. He walks up to AG and asks her if they can go around to Boston’s First Night Celebrations. He wants to see it and they don’t get to visit the city together that much when they visit. She reluctantly says yes…..because she is still pissed about earlier fight and wants to sulk more. They drive around and have a nice time and MB parks the car near his favorite viewing spot on the Charles River. He tells her that he loves this spot and they should get out and walk over to the bridge…….AG says, “nah”, “It’s cold and snowing, can’t we just look out the window.” (Nothing like a mood killer)
MB gets her out of the car and to his favorite spots and starts to say, “You know, the fact that I still want to ask you this today of all days must show you how much I love you and want to be with you……..Will you Marry Me”!
AG replies, “What?” …and then quickly.. “Yes”!!!!
Later on as we all start to find out and hear the story we all laugh our asses off.
Poor MB had been planning this special moment…..not taking into account that A) they would have a big fight hours before, B) He would have drag AG to his romantic spot and C) her first words would be .. “What”!!!!
I look forward to celebrate the union of two of my favorite people that are destined for a life full of love and comedy!
Congrats you two!!!!!
